Not only has RIC helped me secure my First Class in my BSc in Economics and Management, but the experience has imparted many of the essential skills I use in my work as a Research Assistant. Consisting of experienced lecturers and library facilities, it’s clear to see why RIC has produced so many successful graduates over the years.I thank RIC for the numerous opportunities they have provided me throughout the duration of my degree. This included a scholarship to attend the LSE’s prestigious Summer School as well as be a House Captain for the annual sports day.I would recommend RIC for anyone wishing to pursue and solidify their understanding in the Social Sciences.

As a child my ambitions varied from time to time. I had no clear direction as to what I wanted to be when I grew older. I took time off and then realised gradually that law is a subject that really interests me. I loved studying for my LLB and was intrigued by the subject and I knew I had chosen the right field of study. I am currently an entrepreneur, media personality and a talk show host. I feel that education is important and that it truly helps in shaping you to be who you are meant to be. Through my current talk show on YouTube I have been able to discuss topics of relevance to society such as current affairs, law, politics and social issues. Many have said that they learn so much by just watching my show and I’m glad that I could contribute and pass on what I’ve learnt so far in life to the younger generation in Sri Lanka in my own little way.

I joined the LLB programme offered by the University of London (2009-2013) - with RIC as the academic provider. I was drawn to this programme for the world class education it offered, and the wide range of subjects available. The quality of education offered by RIC was exceptional, so were the library facilities. The education - particularly the legal research and training - I received at the University of London/RIC was invaluable for my career progression. I am currently a final year doctoral researcher at the Monash University, Australia - specializing in socio-legal research. Many of my publications reflect my legal training, as it has given me the ability to think about law as a practitioner would.

I joined RIC in September 2017 and my three subsequent years of study have been more than just Law. RIC was indeed a second home. The academic, non-academic, and support staff made everything so much more easier and accessible. As a person who was involved in extra-curricular activities from a very young age, I was ecstatic to preside the Islam society and be the Editor of the LSARIC in 2018. The best moments, however, came from the thrill I got being a part of the Organizing Committees for the Freshers' Night and RIC Ball in 2019 and heading those very committees this year.

I graduated from RIC with a First Class Honours LLB Degree in 2016. Thereafter I sat for my Attorney-at-Law examinations and passed out securing a Class. Subsequently I enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law in 2019 and since then my focus has been on gaining practical experience before matriculating in a Master’s programme. I am currently employed in the Litigation Division at the law firm, F. J and G. de Saram. I also had the privilege of working as an academic at RIC.

Ramesh-Fernando
I chose to pursue the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree offered by the University of London, given its much acclaimed global reputation, as well as its illustrious cohort of alumni which include Nelson Mandela, and our very own, Sri Lankabhimanya Justice C.G. Weeramantry. And, RIC was the natural choice of institution to receive academic support from, with its experienced faculty and facilities. The foundation and guidance I received at RIC proved incomparable, enabling me to achieve success during my undergraduate studies, and my LLM studies at Cambridge, thereafter. I am truly grateful to the academic and administrative staff at RIC whose unhesitating support continued even post-graduation.

My decision to take up the BSc in Mathematics and Economics taught me more than just what was on the books. The three years taught me a great deal about independent learning, striking a balance between work, studies and leisure, and chasing your dreams.
